An interview with our Osteopath – Kim

Dr. Kim Nguyen is warm and caring practitioner, she is passionate about creating individualised treatment plans to support her patients to get back to optimal health.  We ask her some questions about Osteopathy and why she is so passionate about the work she does.

What made you decide to be an osteopath?

I ruptured my ACL playing competitive soccer. I went to see Physiotherapists and Chiropractors and found that I didn’t quite get the care and treatment that I needed separately. I ended up using the combination of both therapists and my own knowledge from my Sports Exercise Science degree and incorporating rehabilitation and was back playing competitive soccer within 3 months without a ACL reconstruction. So I figured what was the best of all worlds in manual therapy and rehabilitation and found Osteopathy.

For those not familiar with osteopathy can you describe what it is you do?

If Physiotherapy and Chiropractic had a baby, it would be a hybrid baby known as Osteopathy. Where we take all aspects of health into consideration including mental, physical, emotional and personal lifestyle preferences to create a whole person and tailor treatment protocols to get people back into optimal health.

In clinical practice is there any special area of interest you like to support clients to manage?

My special interests are in Chronic Lower back pain, Strength & conditioning, Rehabilitation and Sports Specific injuries.

What made you so passionate about supporting people in this particular area?

Having experienced my own series of injuries from playing sports, I can empathise with people who are constantly in pain and unable to do the activities that they love.

What are your personal interests outside of clinic?

I love doing anything physically challenging but my favourites sports and activities are playing Futsal, Soccer, Martial arts like MMA, Taekwondo, Boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Snowboarding, gym and hiking. I am a big foodie and love to experience different dining places. I also love running with my little dog Boo and walking my 2 cats.
