Laser Acupuncture Essendon & Melbourne

Laser Acupuncture in Essendon & Melbourne

Acupuncture without needles. At Essendon Natural Health, we treat acupuncture points with the Premio 32 Evo, a state of the art, professional super-pulsed laser. The treatment is painless and suits adults, teenagers and children. Robert, Alicia and Clara are all trained to use Laser Acupuncture.

What Is Laser Acupuncture?

Laser acupuncture uses a beam of low-level light instead of needles. The laser is directed at traditional acupuncture points, and at areas of pain or injury, without piercing the skin. Each point is treated for just between 30 to 60 seconds to have an effect. Multiple points are treated and often using different laser wavelengths that can have varying effects on the target tissue.

We use laser acupuncture for muscle and joint pain, sports injuries and tension. It is also a good choice for people who would prefer to avoid needles.

Why Choose Laser Acupuncture?

  • Needle-free: no skin penetration
  • Painless: most people feel nothing, or a mild sensation only.
  • Suitable for all ages: including children and teens
  • Quick: 30-60 seconds of laser time per point

Our Laser: The Premio 32 Evo

The Premio 32 Evo is a state of the art Class 3B laser made by Sedatelec in France and designed for acupuncture and photobiomodulation. It is a 905 nm infrared laser with super-pulsed emission. It delivers a high peak power (100 W) in extremely short pulses of around 100 nanoseconds, so the laser reaches the tissue without heating it.

The Premio 32 Evo has preset programs that we choose depending on what we are treating:

  • Analgesic: for pain relief
  • Regeneration: to support tissue repair
  • Relaxation: for muscle tension
  • Acupuncture frequencies: for stimulating acupuncture points

Why Choose Essendon Natural Health?

Our Acupuncturist’s are clinically experienced in a wide range of presentations in all age groups. We are also trained and use more than just one therapy. Often, a laser acupuncture session may include another therapy such as soft tissue release techniques, cupping, gua sha or nutritional recommendations. Your treatment is always discussed with you before starting so you are well aware of what is going to happen. Your practitioner will then tell you what course of treatment will be performed before your case is reviewed once again. Every step of the way should be clear and concise.

Laser Acupuncture FAQs

What is laser acupuncture?

Laser acupuncture is a needle-free treatment that applies low-level laser to acupuncture points or target tissues. It uses the same points and principles as traditional acupuncture, without piercing the skin. Each point is treated for a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Multiple points are used in one treatment.

How does laser acupuncture work?

Laser light is absorbed by the tissue under the skin. This is can stimulate cell activity, modulate pain signalling and support circulation and tissue repair, a process known as photobiomodulation. From a traditional perspective, it stimulates the same acupuncture points that needles would.

Does laser acupuncture hurt?

No. Most people feel nothing at all, or a mild warmth or tingling. There are no needles, so it is a comfortable option if you are nervous about acupuncture.

What is the Premio 32 Evo laser?

The Premio 32 Evo is a super-pulsed 905 nm infrared laser made by Sedatelec in France. It delivers very short, high-peak-power pulses (around 100 nanoseconds), so energy reaches the tissue without heating it. It has preset programs for pain relief, tissue regeneration and muscle relaxation, plus acupuncture specific settings.

What can laser acupuncture help with?

Laser acupuncture is commonly used for musculoskeletal pain such as neck, back, shoulder and knee pain, sports and soft-tissue injuries, tendon problems, tension headaches and jaw tension. Results vary between people, and it does not replace medical care, but can be used alongside standard care.

How does laser acupuncture compare with needle acupuncture?

Both work with acupuncture points. Laser does not break the skin, so there is no needle sensation and no needle-related infection risk. Some people prefer the stronger sensation of needles. We can use laser alone or combine it with other treatments, depending on what suits you.

Is laser acupuncture suitable for children?

Yes. Because it is painless and needle-free, laser acupuncture is a popular option for children and teenagers, as well as for anyone with a fear of needles. We will talk through your child’s concerns before starting.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what we are treating and how long you have had it. Recent injuries often respond within a handful of sessions, while long-standing problems usually need more. We review your progress after the first few visits and only continue if it is helping. Most conditions require laser acupuncture to be weekly or twice weekly initially for at least the first 5-6 sessions.

Is there scientific evidence for laser acupuncture?

Research into low-level laser therapy for pain, particularly musculoskeletal pain, is encouraging, but study quality and results vary. The most promising evidence is for the musculoskeletal conditions such as knee osteoarthritis, lower back pain, neck pain, tendinitis, lymphedema and oral conditions like oral mucositis.

Do private health funds cover laser acupuncture?

Many private health extras policies provide rebates for acupuncture, but cover depends on your fund, your policy and the practitioner’s qualifications. Check with your fund before your appointment. We can provide a receipt suitable for claiming.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

We start with a conversation about your symptoms, health history and goals. We then apply the laser to selected points and, where helpful, the area of discomfort, and explain the treatment plan and expected timeframe before you leave. If any other therapies are using during your treatment, this will also be explained to you.
